Matthew Sankey
The Sankey family have been operating businesses in and around Royal Tunbridge Wells since 1961. The George & Dragon in Speldhurst, The Gate Inn, The Compasses, The Beau Nash, The Speldhurst Sausage Company owned and run by the Family. More recently Sankey's Pub, Seafood Brasserie & Oyster Bar on Mount Ephraim and Sankey's Fishmongers on vale Road. On Mount Ephraim the Seafood Brasserie & Oyster bar provides a relaxed dinning environment in which to enjoy the UK's freshest seafood. Whilst the Pub is one of the few freeholds left in the town and prides itself on its range of real ales, continental beers and fruit beers - all from small independent brewers. The patio or Beer Garden is south facing and offers a little oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the town, its sheltered and can be fully covered & heated. The Fishmongers is a wholesale and retail business offering the widest range of fresh fish in the area, serving over 100 restaurants, pubs and caterers the Fishmongers has become one of the towns over night success stories.
Matthew Sankey
After leaving school at 16, Matthew worked in retail firstly for The Sunglass Hut and then from 18 for the Carphone Warehouse where he became a manager. In 2001 he left The Carphone Warehouse and joined an IT recruitment firm. After a short stint in office refurbishment a dream job working for a Motorsports firm in the town was offered in 2005. Competing in races such as Le Mans and A1GP events this role finished in 2008 after Matthew's father Guy suggested that he wanted to sell the family business. After taking over the restaurant and Pub in 2008 Matthew expanded the business with a retail & wholesale fishmongers in 2009 followed by an MBO in February 2010. Matthew lives with his partner Laura and son William.
